Is Code Geass a good anime?

Is it worth watching if I don't like mecha? I also don't like the art style, everyone looks anorexic. I heard it is a lot like death note, which is one of my favorite anime series. Would you recommend Code Geass?

Update:

I can get past the art style, but it does look a little strange sometimes...

Yes it is. It's the most unpredictable anime I've seen so far. You never know what will happen next.

Code Geass is like Death Note because the main characters are both very similar.

It's not too much of a mecha so don't worry. :) nothing to distracting. like Death Note it's overly dramatic.

It's got giant robots, but it's not all about the giant robot fights like your average mecha anime. I think the reason people draw connections between Death Note and this is that the main characters are both manipulative super genius sociopaths. Lelouche uses his skills for good (sort of) though rather than feeding his crazy god complex.

I'd recommend it. It's pretty interesting and it's not really your average gundam type mecha anime. They are way too skinny though. It didn't bother me that much but it's kind of a weird art style when you look at it.

it's amazing but it's not as deep or dark as death note , and it's nothing like it . the best thing about it is the art style and if you already don't like it , then don't bother .

I don't like mecha either, but I loved Code Geass. Even though there were mecha battles in it, everything else was just so good that I didn't even mind the mecha. It's only one part of a great series.

As for the art style, you should try to watch different anime with a varying art styles. Choosing not to watch what could be a masterpiece just because you don't like how it's drawn is pretty silly, IMO.

So yes, I'd definitely recommend Code Geass. If you ask me, Code Geass was even a bit better than Death Note (and this is coming from someone who rated DN a 10/10) because it had so many interesting themes and the suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat.

@Ringking - Frankly, I loved the second season. I agree it was a bit strange at first, but I thought the ending was fantastic. It perfectly accomplished what Lelouch wanted to do all the way in the beginning, and was a way for him to "repent" for everything he did during the series. Very poetic.

I was in the same situation as you before I watched it, however, I thoroughly enjoyed it! It is a lot like Death Note. I highly recommend it.

I would certainly recommend the first season if you like Death Note, because Lelouche (the main character) is very similar to Light so I expect you would like it. The second season...well... you'll want to watch it for completionism sake but I don't think it's anywhere near as good as the first, and the ending is a bit ridiculous.

    !!!SPOILERS BELOW!!!

I disagree about the ending. It came across to me as manipulative rather than sincere, a cheap milk for drama rather than a real solution, since if Lelouche had REALLY wanted to fix the damage that he, and Britannia, had wrought then as king he was in the perfect position financially and politically to achieve that. It may have been poetic, but it was neither realistic nor competently executed nor did it fit with his already stated motives, and it really brought the whole show down for me.
