son was removed from starting spot.?
help....my son was demoted from first team during his first game yesterday. although the score was 48-0, I still am troubled by how his demotion occurred.
some background: he is on the offensive line and did well in the 3 scrimmages that took place over the last several weeks. yesterday,, however, he just retracted into a shell and 'chickened out' to put it bluntly. their opponents were much better 'athletes' and were bigger, stronger, faster, etc...he was removed from the game at the end of the first quarter and never returned except to complete the minimum number of plays each participant must have. why am I so troubled by this??? he did admit after the game that he was intimidated by the other team because of their appearance and 'swagger'.......although the entire team was humiliated, I feel I haven't done something to prepare him for such a challenge.

Remember, the best way for your son to prove himself is through actions, not words. My best advice for your son is to work hard and perform very well in practice every day. In addition, what your son needs to do this autumn (and every offseason) is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If your son does these things, he will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve his chances of earning back a starting position on his football team.

And there, in a nutshell, is the reason your kid is a gutless wimp: rather than telling him to suck it up and get tough you worry about whether or not he'll be humiliated and try to take the blame for his shortcomings.
Some teams are better than others and some players are tougher than others but the trick is that you don't show fear. You do that and you may as well pack it in. Now that your son has shown that he's nothing more than a cupcake he may as well pack it in and try another sport.
Do they have a chess team at his school?

There are no minimum play requirements in high school or middle school so your son must still be in a youth sports league.Kids at that age get moved around all the time.Next practice see if he gets put back with the first unit and if he doesnt work with him at home and get him better.Or you could always be that one parent who complains to the coach about your sons position and playing time, dont recommend this as i coach and your son will likely see less playing time if you bitzh and complain.

7th & 8th grade.....this is his first year too. i'm trying not to let this bother me (he wasn't too worried...) but I just can't help it. I recall how much fun the sport is/was as I played through high school.
