is it "a or an" before a h?

for an example an honest living.

i've been seeing this lately and i thought you and put an before a vowel.

and my Microsoft words corrected me and put an "an" in front of honest

    It's all about pronunciation, not spelling. "Honest" begins with a vowel sound, not an H sound, so speakers would say "an honest living," not "a honest living."
