Army reserves question?
I am in High School and am trying to get into West Point. I have top notch grades, I play multiple sports, and I am in multiple clubs. My question is, I am currently reading a book called "in a time of war" and he joins the army the summer between his junior and senior year. He completed basic training in the summer, and during the year went to the army one weekend a month just like every other reservist. He put on his application that he was a PFC in the Army reserves. Can I do this? It's a true story and he obviously did this but can I? If I did this what would happen if I got accepted to West Point? Would that time just transfer to active duty or what? Please explain! This is a serious question that I really need answers for. Thanks.

Actually, your out-of-school time is better spent taking extra advanced classes, community volunteering, organized sports, etc. The most important things are GPA, class standing and SAT or ACT scores.
A short term tour in the Army Reserves or National Guard isn't going to help you much as the selection listed above because enlisted service is all about doing something, while officer training is all about LEADING.

We are not "In a Time of War" and that is not going to happen. No one is going to be allowed to enlist at age 17 until he/she has COMPLETED high school.
Just keep working toward West Point by doing an outstanding job in high school.

Yes you can. Read the link. Keep in mind that leaders do not ask questions if the answer exists in print and can be found by a old Sergeant.

The best way to get into West Point is to be sponsored by a Senator or Congressman, you can write to those in your state by visiting their web page.
