why can't i swallow with braces?

I've recently had the beginnings of the brace fitted to my second to back teeth with an arch going just under the roof of my mouth leaving a gap. I don't know if there's meant to be a gap between them since my dentist never told me, also i cant swallow food since chewed food with get caught on the arch of the braces when i try to swallow pulling on my teeth and hurting my mouth.

will this go away or will i have to either deal with it or just stick with soup until they come out.

note: it doesn't hurt to chew

You will most likely get used to it and it will go away soon, but if it doesn't go away in at most 2 weeks, then you should see your orthodontist

Just carry on with your normal activity, your body will find a natural way to deal with swallowing and as for the food getting caught, try to use a straw lol, granny. Hang in there bud.

  • You see, braces are hard, metal iron, it's easy to loose control. When you bite down, it causes damage to the silverwear. You need to be careful! If you're having trouble, why not ask your orthodontist?
