Is it just me or is the US Postal Service becoming lazy?

The Postal Service has, in my experience, always been very reliable. Audits of the Postal Service usually find that it successfully maintains a very high level of accurate delivery, so that a letter will arrive on time and in the right place (if properly addressed) almost all of the time.
If you are personally suffering from poor delivery, write to your area's postmaster, and encourage your neighbors to do the same. On the whole, the USPS measurably does just fine in delivering mail, but there may be a problem in your area specifically.
Additionally, if you are particularly worried about receiving particular kinds of mail, ask the mailer to send it "return receipt requested." They will receive a confirmation of delivery once the mail is actually delivered, so there can be no confusion (unless your mailbox is not secure).

Pay premium for Premium service and use a courier.
Get a Post Office Box and go fetch it.
The people with LARGE walks. Hard to get to Mailboxes. Being beside your door makes it easy for you (No one else) Not clearing their walks after storms. Having dogs at loose and on and on. Has required the Post Office to come up with ways to protect their human employees from injury.
Vandalism by your neighbors. Stolen Mail from your door is not the Post Office Fault. Blame the THEIVES.
Mailmen DO NOT have the mail they once had. They now have more small parcels. They have combined their parcel and mail delivery to ONE person instead of two. Postal workers need to get from the Mail sorting place to their delivery route. Their private cars have been stolen or vandalised. Blame the VANDALS The box drop offs have been VANDALIZED the Postman did not do it.
Now you complain he keeps on eye on the mail his transportation and also brings your parcel. .If you want mail delivery then start writing more letters. Sending gifts to friends instead of an email.
A hand drawing by your child to Grandma instead of a photo on the computer.
If you DO NOT want something left outside then BE HOME when it is delivered or make other arrangements.
For the price you pay the service is not bad. The bills seem to get through and so do the tax notices.
Want instant fast in your hand premium then PAY MORE.

Actually, I have a rather high opinion of the Post office. They move an amazing amount of mail and assuming the mail is properly addressed, are very good about getting it to the right place quickly.
I can send a piece of mail thousands of miles across the country and it will arrive there in 2 or 3 days, and all for only 49 cents. What a deal!
My one beef is when you go to the actual post office. They never have enough people at the counter to help.

I'm not sure what you're talking about. My carrier regularly brings my packages and mail to my back door. Are you in a high crime neighborhood where they have decided it's unsafe for the postal carrier to get out of the truck? If so, that's hardly the post office's fault.

They are a lazy bunch of public employees. The postal service took a nose dive when they put their carriers in those little trucks. Years ago one large truck would deliver the mail for a certain route to a large green post box and the local carrier would get the mail, put it in his leather bag and walk his route delivering the mail. When he ran out of mail he would return to the green box and pick up more for his route. The little trucks -- instead of walking a route and getting the exercise now they sit in the trucks and nurture an azz the size of a Maytag washer. Driving those little trucks adds traffic stress to their life and they relieve this stress by "going postal" with their AK-47. And don't get me started on the millions and millions of dollars it takes to fuel, maintain, and replace those little trucks. Get rid of the trucks and put the carriers back on the street and a lot of the physical, psychological, and financial problems that the post office is currently experiencing will disappear.

Wasn't the USPS motto in "rain, sleet, or snow?" Now they do not even get out of their mail trucks. My mailman is not allowed out of his truck, so if I am home I do not get mail. (I have to park on the road many times in front of my mailbox.) How do I pay a bill if I do not get it in the mail?! My neighbors have been late on payments because of this. Luckily, I typically pay online so it doesn't hit me too hard. However, I feel like people have learned to assume that just because they mail, the recipient will receive it. I have so much mail that gets lost because they refuse to give it to me the day they get it! Does this happen for anyone else? Maybe USPS should just shut down. USPS was always the company to use for consistency, but they lost that in my view. If companies cannot rely on communicating through the USPS system anymore, they should stop paying them!

USA postal service has been responsible for some distinct funny business, since 2002.
They are not always lazy, and in some instances in fact corrupt.
