John 10:30 I and my Father are one. This is not a literal statement as many people believe. It is contextual or allegorical. John 10:29 the previous verse Jesus said: my Father which gave them (sheep) to me is greater than all, and no one can take them out of my Father's hand. Jesus then said my Father and I are one, meaning my Father and I are of the same substance and since no one can take them out of my Father hands no one will be able to take them out of my hand because we are of the same essence.
Besides just six verses down Jesus said: I AM THE SON OF GOD.
Before Abraham was, I am.is literal and means Before Abraham existed, I exist. The Jews said to Jesus, You are not yet fifty years old and have you seen Abraham to which Jesus replied: Before Abraham was, (past tense) I am (present tense) Jesus could not have said before Abraham was, I was because that would have made him deceased, non-existing.
