Should I keep this stray kitten?

On my way home I found a small kitten, I petted it a bit and then it started following me, I've been wanting to get a cat for a while and I didn't see its mom anywhere, plus according to its weight, size and behavior it's about 10 weeks old, so I decided I'd keep it, but now I'm feeling a bit guilty, I know mother cats usually "kick out" their kids at around 12 weeks, but it must be 9-10 so I figured maybe she's looking for him? I'm taking it to a vet tomorrow so he can tell me his age, but if he's less than 12 weeks should I find its mother and give it back or will it be pointless if she's going to make it independent from her in 1-2 weeks?

Update:

By the way I should add that I've had 2 cats before, 1 is with my sister now, though, so I know how to raise a kitten.

If she's a stray, she wont take the kitten back.

of course she's looking for him, but even when they start kicking them out they get stressed about there babys leaving. Keep the kitten, if he was on his own chances are his mother has left him or he's wandered away from the 'nest' on his own.

I doubt it was a stray. Feral cats don't trust humans and wouldn't just walk up to one and follow them home. Chances are it's someone's kitten.
