I don't ever recommend to anybody to join a political party. I used to be a Republican, but for most of my life my greatest concern has almost always been with the U.S. Supreme Court, the one branch of the federal government that we can't vote for. After Bush v. Gore, I decided that it is time for me to just plain stop voting. The Republicans who get appointed to the Supreme Court have proven to be even worse than the Democrats. None of the Justices are, to me, trustworthy, none of them are what the Court deserves to have, the most highly objective interpreters of law that we can possibly find anywhere in the country. And I can't trust that either Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, or the presidential nominees of any other party are going to appoint the best possible legal minds to the Court any time before I die. If a truly GREAT Justice gets appointed, it's going to happen by accident.
If the Sup. Ct. can prevent your vote from being counted, why bother? If you vote "yes" on a ballot proposition in your state, and it passes successfully with a majority of "yes" votes, and so is supposed to become a law in your state, but the Sup. Ct. can strike it down with a cockamamie "interpretation" of the Fourteenth Amendment that wasn't intended and isn't even based on any precedent, why bother to vote?

Don't join any, you don't have to. Most people are independent and don't rely on a party to determine what to believe.
