Remove patch from letterman jacket?

I had a heart patch and my ex boyfriend's initials engraved into my letterman jacket. My ex had the same with his too, but we broke up due to his cheating. I really love my jacket but don't want to see that on there anymore. Any way I can do it myself without damaging it???? The only seamstress I know is his mom who put it on and I don't want to speak with her right now. Please help me, I'm gonna burst out in tears soon.

    You might damage the jacket. Just sew or iron on another patch over the top
