If bacteria evolves so rapidly that it happens everyday, why don't people believe in evolution...?

Okay, I myself am an atheist and I believe in evolution full-heartedly because that makes so much more sense to me than the creationist story I was raised upon. I realized that single-celled organisms are constantly evolving and becoming immune to antibiotics and turnng into new strains or viruses. Because this is so evident, why do people still not believe in evolution? I can see how people question why we aren't evolving and it's simply because our population is so large and how slowly we reproduce but that's a whole different topic. We see evolution all the time and I want to know why people still deny it? Are they still going against it because it goes against their religious beliefs?? I'd like to hear from theists and atheists.

Religious faith of the most fundamental kind is completely different from science. There is no logic, no rationale argument, no fact, no observation, no measurement which will convince a "believer" that their belief is wrong. It is called "Blind faith" for a good reason.

This is why questions on evolution belong in Science and questions on Creationism belong in Religion in Yahoo Answers.

One branch of Creationist belief accepts that evolution may be going on now, for some living things, but still can't possibly be responsible for us humans (we are obviously SO Evolved). This is the "Macro" vs "micro" evolution argument.

As far as why denying evolution is so popular among some Creationists? This is hard to say. It may be that evolution is a more personal, more emotional threat to their belief than any of the other branches of science (which equally show that the earth is VASTLY older than the Biblical age these folks accept as truth). The argument "I knew my grand daddy and he was not a monkey" is a personal and emotional argument. It may also be a rallying cry that could attract some new adherents.

    Technically the bacteria don't evolve.

There are a few problems with the bacteria "evolving" argument:

    1. You start with bacteria and you end with bacteria.

    2. The main method of genetic change in bacteria only works within single celled organisms.

    3. The genetic change is required for bacteria to "eat".

    4. The change does not result in "super-bugs", but weaker bacteria.

Micro-evolution,Small changes that happen every day, Most people believe in. It's Macro-evolution,Where every thing came into being by itself,by Magic, that people reject.

People don't believe in evolution because of either wilful ignorance or religionist brainwashing (or a combination of the two)

You are mistaking selection and adaptation for evolution. Lenski has been breeding bacteria for years trying to get them to "evolve". He started with E. Coli, and finished with E. Coli. He did manage to produce some fairly trivial adaptations.

Evolution is a fairy tale for adults. There is no evidence in the fossil record. It has nothing to do with religion.

  • They don't believe in evolution because they mindlessly believe the crap they find in LSoS creationist web sites and books.

And that is because they are looking for something to justify their religious beliefs.

There is considerably more evidence for evolution than just evolving bacteria. They are just that which have to be dealt with in today's health problems.
