Derivative help? x^2 - 4/x?

Update:

Forgot to add details...

So I do x^2 - 4/x and the answer is 2x + 4x^-2... I think...

Can someone tell me what 4/x equals as in a power? I thought it was x^-4

The derivative of (4/x) is equal to 4 * 1/x, or 4*x^-1. For the derivative, if you use the power rule, you move the -1 out front and subtract the power by one, getting -4 * x^-2, or -4/(x^2).

    CHECK YOUR ANSWER BELOW :

The entire derivative to what you posted would be 2x+(4/(x^2)).
