Pool Filter Sand in Fresh Water Aquarium?

I want to add Quikrete Pool Filter Sand to my aquarium. I currently have small gravel in there? Can I just put the sand over the gravel or do I need to take the gravel out then put the sand. I know it's safe and it won't cloud the water.

you missed the step where you rinse the hell out of it a cup at a time.

but otherwise if you want to buy crappy filter sand and use it instead of a better product, that's fine, it's probably safe enough.

note: I'd never put it in my tank, things that might be safe to swim in, are not necessarily appropriate or safe for fish tanks. You would never know even if it leached metals or other materials into the water

I used pool filter sand from Mejiers and it works great. I filled my tank up with water, added sand and then let my filter clean the cloudiness. My 60 gal is crystal clear and have african cichlids inside. Even when I mix the sand up to rearrange the rocks it dosnt cloud that much and goes back to clear the next day. I would get it from mejiers and not quickcrete brand.

Ask your fish what they want.
