Christians -- Why have you never read the Bible in its entirety?

Statistical data show that more than 90% of self-identified Christians have never read the Bible in its entirety:

http://healtheland.wordpress.com/2008/01/23/less-t...

If this book is your best evidence for your God's existence, and his most direct effort to communicate with YOU, personally, to convey his message, why on Earth would you NOT make the effort to find out what he actually has to say to you?

Please, help us to understand -- because your actions suggest that you don't take the Bible any more seriously than atheists do...

    I have read (completely) several different versions. But, then, I'm what is called an "avid reader". I like to read more than most people do.

    I'm not surprised that 90% have not read the entire Bible. Christianity historically predates universal literacy. Probably for that reason, Christianity in general does not *require* its members to read the Bible (required reading of the entire Bible is not a common Christian doctrine), even though several sects encourage (not require) their members to read the entire Bible.

    I mean, think about it: what about someone who is illiterate - someone who, perhaps, has a learning disability and *cannot* learn how to read? Christianity does not exclude such people, but **requiring** the reading of the entire Bible *would* exclude such people.

    The Bible is NOT an easy book to read. It is much lengthier than almost any textbook (lengthier than any textbook I ever had to use in University). For the most part, it has the "style" of a history textbook - a style that many people find *extremely* boring. I think it's difficult for most people to motivate themselves sufficiently to read the entire thing.

    I am a christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and we ALL read the entire bible ie 66 books. This is achieved by two means:

    1: scheduled bible reading

    2: daily personal bible reading

    So, even if ones are remis on their studies (for we are human and to let things get us down and some are not readers by choice etc), they still get to read the bible at meetings, for our whole meeting is talking about the bible;

    It's actually not necessary.... First of all, the new testament is what Christians follow... The old covenant is for a better understanding of God. Christ gave us two commandments: Love God first and foremost and love others as you love yourself. Having a genuine relationship with Christ is what matters. Learning how to love others unconditionally is what matters. What good is it for a man to read the entire bible but still has hate in his heart?? The man will burn in Hell.

    God judges our hearts.

    I have but why do you care? Oh yeah, you're just here in an attempt to feel better about yourself by insulting others. Carry on.

    Catholics, 1.2 billion living members, get through the Bible once every 3 years on a regular cycle if they just attend Mass. So, I question your "stats".
