Beatles changed entire culture in ways those of the younger crowd have no way of appreciating (wish you could, but "had to be there"). Jimi Hendrix was such a force of nature, humorous.... opened doors that many have attempted to match, but don't have Hendrix's luminous soul. Runners up include Stones, Talking Heads (they still sound ahead of where ever music is now), Wailers, Little Feat.

It is all a matter of taste and personal preference I hope you realise. But fun to see what other's rate as best.

The Allman Brothers Band. They were the only band to have four guitar players in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the top 100 guitar players of all time.

The Beatles had a HUGE impact on music but for strictly rock I'd have to say the Stones - not just for their music but also because they personify "rock star" with all the good and bad that goes with it.

Most influential the beatles. They also did a ton of pop type songs I would say there is an argument for the stones or pink Floyd as well...

I'd choose The Rolling Stones for sheer quality and quantity of touring and recording
