dogs that look like great danes?
I've been seeing a lot of dogs lately that look like great danes, but they are too small to be great danes. They are still big dogs, however. The ones I have seen have a merle coat. Any idea of what's going on? Are they being bred to be smaller or crossed with other breeds?

Could be Catahoula Leopard Dogs. Some Danes are definitely smaller, though.

Some of the really huge, oversized Dobermans resemble great Danes slightly. I think *maybe* Danes were crossed in at one point to create the really huge Dobes.

If you had pictures of these "lots of dogs" we may be more able to help.
It is possible you are seeing another breed like the Beauceron (http://www.prodoggroomingsupplies.com/dog-forums/a... or the Catahoula Leopard Dog (https://images.akc.org/breeds/catahoula_leopard_do... but is it also possible you are seeing pittie mongrels which seem to come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ancestries these days.
