Basically, German supports the idea of a Palestinian state, particularly within the boundaries of the West Bank and Gaza; however, they still have a close friendship with Israel and is arguably one of, if not the strongest supporter of Israel on the European continent.

They don't support the settlements but aren't as condemnatory against them. I don't know what their stance on Jerusalem is, though, since that one is rather complicated an affair for Israel.

Merkel has been very supportive of Israel and I suspect her party as a whole is generally pro-Israel. I don't think Germans as a whole can be said to support one or the other, though the Turkish and Arabic immigrant populations are rather vocal about supporting Palestine.

Edit: Concerning religious minorities, they seem to be for giving them equal opportunity all over. Ditto other human rights.

This really doesn't play too much into Germany's relationship with Israel since, honestly, Israel isn't an offender. Religious minorities are protected by law in Israel, though the Palestinian PR campaign does try to spin it the other way. An example of this is the recent riots on the Temple Mount/al-Aqsa, and how a lot of people were told that Israel temporarily shut down the complex without the context that an Israeli was shot there. When religion comes up in the Israeli-Arab debate, Germany tends to stay out of it, or at least their opinion isn't a breaking point.

Really, I'd ask the Germany section of Y!A (I'm seeing your question in Current Events). They'd know more.

What in 1944 was Prussia, in 1945 became Russia.

What in 1947 was Palestine, in 1948 became Israel.

    Palestine also was always Israel.

Prussia before 1945 never was Russia.
