15 Year Old and Got Notice of Debt Collection.?

I am 15 and got a debt collection letter today, claiming that I owe eBay 18.01 GBP. I have not used my eBay account for almost 7 months now, however I did loose my phone that had eBay installed with all my information saved thus someone could've made purchases without my acknowledgement. Also it said that I must pay till 13th or they'll use doorstep collectors and legal actions. Currently I wrote an eMail to eBay and waiting for reply.

Since I am 15 and can not be legally employed therefore do not own any property or money can I just ignore that letter since I've got nothing to make the payment with.

Finally how much will this affect my future financial prospects (mortgages, credit, etc.)

Thank you for all the answers in advance!

Yeah, you can just ignore them. If you are under 18 then you can't be held to a contract, no family members can be held to anything, and they cannot take repercussions against you. They will tell you that you HAVE to pay them or that you'll get sued, but you aren't of the age of majority, so you can't be forced to pay them.

As far as credit goes, if they have your social security number then they could report it to one of the credit agencies, and you can call the credit company and tell them that it's an error. You aren't even old enough to have debt. They'll probably write it off for you like it never happened.

    Good luck!

When Ebay finds out you are under 18, collection can send the debt to your parents because they legally cannot collect it from you. This sort of problem is due to your not reading the contract with Ebay that requires you be 18. Ebay can find your parents by your IP address and they are liable for your debts.

You, or your parents are responsible for the fee. IN some places, the parents can be held liable for any debt incurred by their child, regardless of what that debt is. My suggestion would be to find a way to pay your bill, then stop lying and become an ethical and moral person and actually follow the terms and condition laid out in the agreements, less you end up like Ted Bundy.

The debt is likely for seller fees. eBay usually doesn't collect debts owed to sellers if you buy something. Thus, you must have sold something, or someone got your account and sold on it.

Since you are 15 you can expect eBay to close your account and ban you.
