As a woman do you feel terrified in this world?

Everyday there's news about rape all over the world. I don't just mean ISIS kidnapping women and girls to rape and marry them off. I'm not just talking about backward cultures of rape, and then the treatment of rape victims but also the stoning, forced to carry rape baby (anti abortion laws). Right here in the US we read cases of kidnapped and raped women everyday.

Some nights I am too terrified to sleep or go out at night by myself. Do you feel this way?

I hear what you guys are saying and normally I don't read these things and I don't own a tv. But these news are everywhere all the time. So somethings it's hard not to find out. As for rape victim being survivors.... I"m not sure if murder is worse because if you survive something as horrific as gang rape or now have a baby as a result then you are in constant emotional, physical and mental hell.

Normally I feel fine.. but today is one of those days where fear has crept up

I think any human being should be a little concerned about the state of the world, but if we're going to be completely honest, men are much more likely to be murdered than women and almost as likely to get raped.

All those women we hear about who are being kidnapped and raped by ISIS, the part a lot of people aren't hearing about is that those women are actually the survivors of the attack. A lot of, if not all of their men are usually killed before the women are captured. Yes, rape sucks...but murder sucks more.

Women tend to be shown more mercy in this world than men, even though that sometimes comes with having less rights and choices. I think it's good for us to be reminded of that sometimes when we get caught up in all this fear-mongering spread by the media about being female.

By the way, even if abortion were made completely illegal, there are other fairly simple ways to end an early term pregnancy without abortion. Just Google "nature ways to cause a miscarriage."

I'm careful, but don't stay inside the house because of it.

I think the most intimidating thing about men is their physical strength.

On one hand it's one of the things I find most exciting and sexy, and on the other the most frightening!

Sometimes I don't think females understamd just how strong most of them are. I also have my doubts about giving women a false sense of security with some six week course that's going to make it so they can fight off a guy. I mean some classes are teaching good techniques, but some make it sound like you are now on the same physical playing field as a man. Nope. Not.

Would be better to buy some pepper spray, use it, and then run like hell!

I don't think most women think about it. It's almost like the ostrich. Head in the sand and all.

I think that's why they are caught off guard and so shocked. It's like they don't think men could be this barbaric and sick.

For what it's worth, some of us (men) are violently opposed to rape. It's sad that there aren't more of us, perhaps we could turn the tide and make it safe.

  • The Republicans believe in legal rape. The GOP could easily have outlawed abortion during Bush's reign when they had full control of the government. When the pro-life people started trying to legislate "Children's Rights" it would have given unborn children the RIGHT TO LIFE. But the GOP, Fox news, Limbaugh, etc, knew this would mean that conservative pro-life Christians would declare a victory and slowly stop being "worldly" by voting. So they spun it into a law that would prevent parents from spanking their own children and got their own sheeple to shoot it down. This is the secret GOP conspiracy.

I'm not paranoid but I know not to be in the wrong places at the wrong times and not to be a man's fool. Being a woman in America doesn't justify living in a constant state of fear, that's paranoia. If this were Africa or the Middle East things would be different. Bad things happen but the chances of them happening to you are almost nil.

Being transgender adds more fear, I've received actual death threats in person from multiple people and it still makes me scared to know that my life is so unwanted by so many people who don't care to end it.

We also read ( or at least should be) stories of the countless male victims of violence (greater numbers than female) and countless male victims of murder - the thousands of boys killed by Boko Haram and ISIS.. not kidnapped mind, just slaughtered for being male and you know what? .. I sleep fine at night because the West is very safe comparatively speaking and you, are a member of the safest demographic this world has ever known. .so why not get your head out of sensationalist BS news reports and try sleeping instead

No. I have never been without protection in a place or situation where i felt unsafe. If a man is being super shady around me late at night and im by myself its almost a guarantee that i have something-either knife or sharp object in my hand and am very aware of my surroundings. I will not be to afraid to hurt someone who is making me feel threatened. Other than a weapon i have my phone prepared to call 911.

no not at all. In fact in my teen years and early 20's I use to walk around for hours at night and early morning by myself or with one other person in my home town Caboolture which has the second highest violent crime rate in the state.

Obviously I am aware of the danger that we face, but I do what I can to avoid such dangers and go on living my life. I don't let it bother me. Be aware of your surroundings, don't put yourself into dangerous situations, and be able to defend yourself in the event that you do end up in danger. That is all you can do, and there is no need to go around living your life in fear of what might happen.
