becoming a teacher?

I'm thinking about becoming a teacher. No clue why though as I m not a huge fan of kids or teens, even though I m only 19 myself at the moment. But, it s the only career choice I've been thinking seriously about for longer than a week so there has to be some reason. So I 'e been trying to come up with a list of pro s and con s to see if I could handle it. Plus, what kind of college courses do you have to take to become one? Thanks for all answers

It all depends on what you want to teach. A Bachelor's Degree and a multi-subject credential will allow you to teach elementary school. If there is a certain subject that you are passionate about then major in that subject but choose the credential option and go for a Master's Degree. You could teach history or art or whatever it is that you like at a high school or community college. I recommend talking to a teacher or school counselor about this. They should be able to lead you on the right track. Teachers have great schedules, but it's not an easy career as it requires a lot of patience and prep work. Dealing with kids who have attitude and parents that are crazy can be very disheartening. Having to grade papers and deal with other after school stuff can be frustrating. There are a lot of cons, but the pros win in the end. Making a difference in a child's life is the most rewarding thing you can do and teaching gives you the opportunity to do that everyday. It's worth it.

A couple of things really concern me. You don't mention personal any love of learning or fascination with a particular academic area such as loving math or literature. It's not enough just to love children - which also seems to be lacking. Being a teacher is not just a job. It's a career that is an expression of a lifelong commitment to learning and to teaching others,

You've entertained this goal for a week. Have to start somewhere, but give this serious thought by starting with some practical experience as a volunteer, perhaps with Sunday School, scouts, after school care, tutoring at a community center, any place where you can be in a situation where you have to engage some children or youth in a learning situation. You need to see first hand if you feel comfortable in this role.

Teaching is a challenging job with many unique frustrations, but the rewards of teaching are numerable. Some of the many benefits include the following.

Experience the Joy of Making a Difference

Have a Vocation, Not a Job

    Enjoy Interpersonal Interaction

    Be a Lifelong Learner

Have a High Level of Autonomy

    Teachers must know the

Teachers know the subjects they are teaching.

    Teachers know how children grow.

Teachers understand that children learn differently.

    Teachers know how to teach.

Teachers know how to manage a classroom.

    Teachers communicate well.

Teachers are able to plan different kinds of lessons.

I know lots of teachers, young and old and every one of them can no longer stand their job. The paperwork is triple what it used to be. They no longer are allowed to teach their own way and the kids nowdays are so spoiled and disruptive that they won't listen or learn and the teacher is blamed. I'd advise against this career.

if you dont like students, why go into it? thats like saying you dont like books but youll become a librarian; it makes no sense, if liking kids is something that you think will grow for younover time, go for it. but dont go into a profession youll dislike. also, if you do go into this proffesion and you still dislike kids, dont be one of those jerk teachers that people ask "why are they teaching?" bit, any decison you make im sure youll do just fine in (:
