Why does the Left want illegal immigration, wouldn't the poor benefit from less competition for low-no skill jobs?

You're assuming left = poor. In the UK the left generally want more immigration because it gives them reliable voting blocs. Most of these champagne socialists also don't live in areas affected by immigration and are in safe jobs that are not likely to be replaced by cheap foreign labour. The right is just as guilty in overlooking immigration in their desire for greater profits, lower wages, access to markets through globalism.

I don't know but you're right. That's what's happening. I hear liberals say all the time that the illegals take the jobs Americans don't want. I say, if Americans don't want these jobs, then they don't need to be on welfare either.

The poor are being ignored by Liberals so they can bring in more voters, it is like your cable company giving new customers better rates to get them to sign up and thousands of older customers being ripped off, the old customers eventually get fed up with it and leave like some people are leaving the Liberals.
