Suffragettes were women who worked to gain the right to vote for women in national elections. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott were among two of the most well-known. Their political movement began in the late 1700s and succeeded in 1920. And no, the two ladies I mentioned didn't live long enough to be able to exercise the vote. If they had lived in Colorado, they'd have been able to vote sooner - but only in elections for Colorado legislators, not national elections.

In britain the suffragettes were mainly middle class women who wanted the right to vote, like most men could, but not all men could vote until 1918. you will have to look them up, there are lots of details, look up the pankhurst family, they were the leaders of the suffragettes in britain.
