Pride would best fit the category for mockery. However, a better category can be found in Proverbs 6:16-19: “There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 1) haughty eyes, 2) a lying tongue, 3) hands that shed innocent blood, 4) a heart that devises wicked schemes, 5) feet that are quick to rush into evil, 6) a false witness who pours out lies, and 7) a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.” However, this list is not what most people understand as the seven deadly sins.

According to Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th century, the seven deadly sins are as follows: pride, envy, gluttony, lust, anger, greed, and sloth. Although these are undeniably sins, they are never given the description of "the seven deadly sins" in the Bible.

According to Proverbs, mockery is better described as coming under the category of stiring up dissension, something God hates.

The 7 deadly sins are: lust, gluttony, greed, laziness, wrath, envy, and pride. This is just a list of character flaws a monk came up with when he spent time in isolation meditating to what led to his own downfall. Not all sins will fall under this category.

Most sins, however, will fall under the 10 Commandments that God gave Moses. Jesus summarized the 10 commandments into 2, love God and love others. Mockery would fall under not loving others.

Looking at the 7 deadlies, mockery might be caused by pride.

What is the big deal about mockery anyway? Talk about thin skinned. It's not on the level of water boarding, for instance. Jeez, have any friends from NYC? Mocking just their way of saying "hello".....

"Sins" are a BS man-made, religious concept, just pretend. They don't apply to sane people in real life. Only our laws apply.
