HELP!!! How do I get rid of my stubborn fruit fly infestation?!?
We currently have hundreds of fruit flies in our home. We have tried using wine (covered and uncovered), apple cider vinegar w/ soap (with and without fruit), grape juice, and Terro fruit fly traps. We also dump boiling water down the sink regularly to kill possible larvae. Our next step is to hire an exterminator. It seems like one minute they decrease, then the next day they increase again. Any other ideas?
They are definitely fruits flies, not meal moths.

The pests are laying eggs in something moist. When the eggs hatch, they appear and more of them.
The eggs might be in plant soil, an old potato, onion, a forgotten soda can or just something moist. Maybe behind the refrigerator.
Getting rid of the source of the eggs will take care of the gnats.
Gnats can go through screens, around windows and through vents.
Source(s): I use vinegar in water and a drop of soap to trap them. - ?Lv 76 years ago
If you dont have raw fruit sitting around you are probably misidentifing your problem. You might have a pantry pest called Indian Meal Moth. Look here for pictures and description of this pest.--- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_mealmoth.
This pest can live in any sort of stored food product that is not in the refrigerator or tightly sealed. Look through all old food stuffs for larvae and decay. I once found them in a box of old chocolates that were on a back shelf.
