How to update Windows XP Professional 2002?

Hi. I have no idea about computers. I recently found out that someone had hacked my WiFi password. I googled and somehow managed to change my password.

Now, all the devices in my house are connected to the WiFi. But I have this PC which uses Windows XP Professional 2002 and its somehow not getting connected to the WiFi.

I tried 'Forget Connection' and it didn't work.

I asked one of my friends and he said that I should reinstall drivers. I don't really know what that meant. So I googled and found out that I need to update my version and when I do that, the drivers will automatically be reinstalled and the internet connection will start working again.

The problem is that I don't have the cd used for update. I'm not sure how to go about things anymore. The internet doesn't work and I'm not sure if I can download and update on my laptop, feed it in a cd and feed it to my pc.

Please help?

those people telling you that xp support has ended are right about not getting security updates for xp (although driver updates might stilll be there for a bit) -- what they people didn't tell you is that there is a simple registry fix (or hack) that will turn your xp into a POS (point of sale) computer... this will give you many more years of updates..

ok.. enough of that... so what you need now is a wireless network driver for your system..

that is, assuming your computer even has wireless capabilities.. if it's a desktop, it's unlikely that you have wireless.. unless you had a card installed or a USB wireless stick.... if it's a laptop, that's 10 yrs old or newer, you probably do have wireless capabilities... that said, your best bet is to google on your brand and model number and add the keywords wireless driver

for example dell latitude xxxxx wireless driver... then pick the link that is from dell .. you do not need to update your OS to get the latest driver for xp.... but from your wording I'm not convinced that you need a wireless driver.... is it you just can't connect? when you changed your wireless password, did you change your type from WEP to WPA? it's hard to answer your question properly without information that would be needed. I would suggest you make an entirely new question with all the info you can provide

I am sorry to tell you that Microsoft support for XP has ended. So you should upgrade to Windows 7 and reconnect to your router after that. I think you will be banging your head against a wall if you attempt repair using XP. It's preferable to buy the CD rather than downloading as that way you have the peace of mind of a disc if you need to use it again. See link for UK sources.

Microsoft has stopped supporting ALL versions of Windows XP. It is time to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. It may require connecting the computer to your router with a physical wire in order to update.
