a quesion about conservatives, guns, and religion?

In the bible Jesus Christ says "those who live by the sword shall perish by the sword"

it's pretty clear he's talking about weapons and not the sword specifically

I can't see any scenario ever where Jesus would endorse guns or own one

most (American) conservatives identify themselves as christians

Most American Conservatives staunchly support gun rights and many own guna

isnt there a conflict between their faith and political beliefs?

Let me show you what the son of God, Jesus had to say on this:

Luke 22:36, Then said he (Jesus) unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Luke 11:21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace:

No. I'm a conservative, I support gun laws, and I'm still a Christian. Firstly, you can't interpret the bible... its actually a sin in itself. But even so... That quote from the bible could mean so many things. And people who own guns do not "live by the sword". Its not like we are going off a killing everything with our guns. I think this quote goes more with one of the 10 commandments. Which is "do not kill". We can have weapons as long as we aren't using our weapons against other people. A lot of people use weapons for protection or for going to the range and shooting for fun. Not to go off and kill people. Because of course that would be a sin! So yeah from a Christian conservatist point of view, we are not sinning by approving or owning guns. Its the way you use the gun that really matters! hope this helps! :)

This isn't a conservative/liberal issue but rather one of depth of thought, too shallow in your case.

One should not live by the sword. But in Luke 22, Jesus admonishes those who do not have a sword to buy one, even if they have to sell their cloak to do so.

There's a big difference between offensive action and defense, with the latter being a moral obligation with religious roots in Judeo-Christian thought.

"Revelation 1:16 and he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two-edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength."

No. The Bible references you're referring condemn a world practice of violence against each other. But there's a difference between waging war vs. an incident in which you have to defend yourself.

You're misunderstanding the concept of striving for peace. We all want peace, but at the same time we all know there are those who would do us harm for no other reason than to take what we have. So by all means, embrace a peace loving life, but carry a big stick just in case.

Their faith is a joke. My friend Joe was a "devout Catholic", when Pope Frank was voted in he quickly changed to Epicopalian as the Pope is, you know, an illegal immigrant type. He also bought a shotgun to save himself from home invading Muslim Mexican Children full of Ebola.
