why do conservatives deny their role in the Jim crow era?

Question

I always hear Conservatives try to spin the story and say liberals were responsible for Jim crow. It was very clear people like governor Wallace were not liberal, it's clear the politicians who filibustered the civil rights act weren't liberal, they were conservative politicians? I'm not trying to offend anyone. But this twist on history is insane, anyone care to explain what leads them to deny very clear conservative politicians and their very clear opposition to the civil rights movement?

You can not expect the same terminology for those words for yesteryear, in today's world conservatism and liberalism sort of lost the identity from days gone by therefore can not be addressed to the Jim Crow era

It was the Reactionaries to these Conservative legislative initiatives (notably those in the Democratic party) who fought to retain the status quo. ... It was the classical Liberals (such as F.D.R. and Kennedy) who, for political reasons,  backed the southern reactionaries in their attempt to retain the status quo.

Well, the Republicans tried to pass anti-lynching laws for decades but the Democrats always blocked them. This is a matter of Congressional Record, thoroughly documented and an undeniable proof.
