Yeah let's be a little honest here.

    Canada has universal health care.

They also have a retail sales tax of over 15% on everything including food and services.

Since it is a value added tax part of it is actually hidden. SO the real tax is about 20%

Why don't you socialists ask an honest question instead of Grubering it?

Do you want universal health care and are you willing to pay a 20% sales tax on all goods and services to pay for it?

won't work. Universal health care would require additional funding for the government on the order of 1/10th the entire economy -- that's approximately 1.5 trillion per year.

the only way to get that kind of money is a very broad based tax -- something like a 14% VAT applied to all consumption. [consumption is 70% of the economy, so 14% of 70% is approx 10% of GDP raised.]

when I say "all consumption" it has to include the consumption value of user owned non-business assets as well ... that's cars, homes, boats, recreational lands, etc.

Source(s): basic economics. health care is now about 18% of the economy and about 50% government funded, with the government running an estimated 3% of GDP deficit. this would leave the deficit at 2% of GDP, if the tax could be collected.

Universal healthcare isn't perfect but the current US healthcare system is the most expensive per capita in the world, yet ranked 37th in the world. It's quite ironic that Americans have no problem with their taxes paying for bombs, but hate the thought of taxes paying for every citizens healthcare.

    Much simpler way.

Use the existing Medicare deduction that is already part of everyone's paycheck.

Increase the amount withheld by 5% across the board.

There is your universal healthcare payment.

What happens when that money runs out? Do the spin off benefits stop,do taxes start going up or does the quality of an already shiity service go down?

Makes more sense to me than fines for people that do not buy something from a private enterprise. However government couldn't extract a cup of water from a lake. A private company would have to do it and make a profit.

I suppose if we do move forward with universal healthcare, that isn't the worst way in the world to fund some of it.

As if raising revenue ever resulted in a balanced budget. The Federal government spends more money than it takes in regardless of how much it takes in.

If we are always going to have budget deficits, I see no reason to figure out a way to pay for anything.

I don't even see a reason to pass an annual budget....oh wait, we already stopped doing that years ago.

    Hope that helps.

Since it is ENTIRELY about forcing consumers to obey a bureaucrat and serves NO OTHER PURPOSE WHATSOEVER, funding needn't be a concern. ACA has no requirement to actually pay for ANY care, you know.

Of course the ONLY POSSIBLE actual answer is, "we're going to FORCE WORKERS to pay for it." So it is with literally everything any Democrat has ever proposed.

Well, they stole from the U.S. tax payers to pay for Romney care in Massachusetts.

I'm thinking were going to have to tax Europe, China, and Canada to pay for HC for all the U.S. citizens : )
