How much does it cost to get married in Queensland?
We live in Mackay, Queensland and are wanting to have a decent wedding but are on a tight budget. We considered a courthouse wedding but thought it was tacky. So we are thinking of a beach or a garden wedding.
We only have our families to invite and probably a couple of friends which will be a total of less than 20 people including us, the bride and the groom.
We have a baby on the way and I am about to stop working. Don't have anything saved up and not considering getting a loan to spend for the wedding.
Please please help me with the details as I have been surfing the internet and couldn't really get an idea as to how much it will cost.
I already have someone to be our photographer.
Thanks in advance

the first thing you need to do is contact a wedding celebrant. in australia, they are the ones who help you with all the rest. they can marry you an place you choose, so how much you spend on the wedding is going to be first how much the license is, how much the celebrant costs and what else you decide to have. you can just have it in a local park and have a cookout for your friends and family, or in someone's backyard. you can order food from a take out place and pick it up yourselves to save money. if you want flowers, do your own....that way all you pay for is the actual flowers, not the arranging. just get some pretty blooms and wrap some floral tape around the stems to hold them, then cover the floral tape with ribbon. if you want a wedding dress, go to a salon and get one off the sale rack or go to a second hand store.
normally, what you do is decide how much money you can afford to spend and then make your wedding fit into that budget. as for getting married on the beach, it is very very hard to find beaches to marry on in australia...you have to pay a fee for all of them, so you would be better off in a park or your own backyard or a family member's yard where you don't have to pay. parks sometimes charge a fee, but it is minimal.
but really...the cheapest way to get married there is to go to a registry office....the one in brisbane has a lovely room which allows you to have up to 50 guests, you can play music, have flowers and wear a wedding dress. with the celebrant and everything...the cost is only 300 dollars during the week and 385 on saturday. you can't do it cheaper anyplace else and the building is beautiful and not at all tacky.

A courthouse wedding is not tacky by any stretch of the imagination.
The cost for ANY marriage is the payment for the official marriage license, and whatever your officiant charges to perform your ceremony. And if you choose to invite guests, then whatever the cost is to feed them and to have enough chairs and tables for every single person.
Any costs aside from that - attire, invitations, photography, flowers, entertainment, etc. - are optional. Book what you can afford, or do without it.
How you choose to do this is up to you. You can marry in the courthouse, on the beach, or in a garden, and take them to a restaurant afterward for a simple meal. Or you can rent a hall and bring in food from a local small restaurant or a grocery store. Or you can invite a small handful of guests and then host them at your home after the ceremony for some food, even just a cake and fruit and some drinks.
If you have no money in savings, especially with a baby on the way, it's irresponsible and dumb to spend money on a party. If you want to be married before the baby comes, then get married in the most inexpensive way possible and then save the rest of your money for Baby. Go to the courthouse or hire an officiant (minister, professional officiant, judge, whatever) to come to your home and lead a short ceremony in front of your parents, and serve a homemade cake afterward. Don't spend money on anything else.
If you're able to keep working, then sock away every penny you can for Baby. If you have to stop working, then your partner should consider a second job to build up your savings. Babies are expensive. You're doing Baby a huge disservice if you spend what little money you have on a party, rather than him/her.
If you really want a bigger wedding, then wait until after Baby comes and you've got your feet under you as parents and until you've got some money set aside for emergencies, never mind for a wedding. Plenty of unmarried couples have lovely families. It's 2014 - your family will survive if you aren't married before Baby comes.
If you want to blow money on a party, then it's got to wait until your priorities are taken care of first. You've made the decision to have a baby together, so now you need to deal with the consequences ... Baby trumps Party, every single time. Parenthood is about sacrifices, and you're learning that lesson early. So either sacrifice the large wedding for something super-small, or sacrifice the idea of a baby born in wedlock.

When we got married, we did so in our backyard. With all expenses, it cost less than $200, even with a celebrant.
The cost depends entirely on how much you want to spend.
