Chris and Aquarius are correct in emphasizing the need to play games against real opponents, but some guidelines are also helpful. Here are 10 tips from the US Chess Federation.

And a good resource page from an excellent coach.

Chess is a game that tests your brain skills. Once you learn the basis and all moves made by king, queen, knight, soilders, etc., just keep practicing

It's better to play with friends / relatives / family

Also, the game of chess is available for free ( http://www.arasanchess.org/ )

There was no need of buying Chess game...

    Chris Ancor is right!

The best way to improve (by far) is to join a chess club in your area. Aim to play opponents just a bit better than you.

Avoid rapidplay games at this stage - you will learn next to nothing this way.

buy the book of alexey sokolsky about chess for beginners ., it will immensely help you ., also keep playing with the computer , starting as a grade 1 (beginner) once you understand the methods and modes , start winning , go to the next ., grade 2 and so on once you reach grade 3 you will reasonably understand the intricacies of chess

Learn how moves but practice makes perfect. Think about what will happen if you move there, like will you be in danger and will you be able to take a piece without a big lose.

You need a real live human teacher. Learning on computers & out of books is the reason the world is now full of terrible players.
