How would you set up a company making kit cars?

So some classic cars like the VW beetle and Citroen 2CV can be built from scrach as all the parts, chassis, body panels etc are available to buy.

Would it be possible to set up a company selling a package of all the car parts with instructions for customers to assemble the car?

How would you get permission form the original manufacturer such as VW or. Citroen? Would you have to buy a licence and would this be expensive?

I know with the original beetle there is a huge market of people who'd like one.

What reasons may the original manufacturer have for refusing licence to produce kit versions of a car they no longer produce?

How do you expect to make a profit?

Right now, add up the cost for all the parts, down to every last but and bolt. Now take that number and look at it.

It is likely going to be much, much more than a half dozen easily restorable cars... plus, how are you going to cover your butt when you have a bad instruction and the builder wrecks because you had the wrong torque spec or weld location? How much are you willing to pay a year for insurance?

How many cars have you built from scratch? If the answer is less than a couple dozen, might be dime to step back and rethink your business plan.
