How do I connect a pipe to a garden hose nib/bib?

Will a 3/4" water heater hose connect to a outside garden hose nib?

Here is the situation: I have a pex line that I would like to connect to the outside faucet such that I can unscrew it and drain it for the winter. I have a steel braid hose to connect the pex (Sharkbite) to the faucet, except it says for a water heater, which to my understanding is the same size faucet as for an outdoor garden hose. For some reason this connector won't screw on tight. It's as if the threads are all wrong. So I'm wondering if this is just a defect or if I need to find a different way to connect. If the later, then how do I make the connection?

The threads on a garden hose faucet "almost fit" a 3/4" NPT(F) If it only needs to go on 2 or 3 turns, you can sometimes bull-moose it on & "make it fit" but they sell adapters between garden hose thread and pipe thread in all permutations.

the threads on the heater faucet are probably very short and the hose end that screws onto the heater are longer == since it is only a temporary connection you might try turning the heater water supply off and using an extra '' hose washer'' to drain the heater ... remember to remove the hose and close the heater bib .... do not connect any garden bib ... just let the heater drain hose directly out the door on the level of the floor and across outside the house ....
