Who originally came up with the idea of Holocaust ? Hitler or Himmler ?

Hitler wanted a pure Aryan race. So did he came up with the idea and let Himmler take charge or did the idea came from Himmler and Hitler gave him permission to do it?

-Thank you in advance for your answers-

The Holocaust wasn't an idea but just another word, that has now associated with the Jewish Extermination

The term used was the "final solution" to find away to kill and handle all of the dead bodies, not just the Jews, but all of those other races that didn't meet their requirements.

The order Hitler gave tp Himmler and the others was to devise a final solution economically. It is unsure who could claim that it was theirs as it was probably done by a Committee working out all of the details from architects who designed the gas chambers, the ovens, the barracks etc

They would have presented to Himmler and the others who would have presented it to Hitler who signed the order 'to make it happen'

The exact origins of the Holocaust is a continuing debate among scholars. There's apparently two broad camps: functionalists and intentionalists. The intentionalists take a more top down approach which suggests that Hitler had the idea for the Holocaust in place well in advance and that the execution of the Holocaust was done from the top down with orders flowing from Hitler and other high ranking Nazis. The functionalists, or structuralists, believe that the Holocaust only took shape bit by bit and that there wasn't a longstanding pre-conceived plan for the genocide. Rather, they assert that the Holocaust took shape bit by bit in an ad hoc fashion as the Nazis reacted to events on the ground. Functionalists also take a more bottom up approach to the Holocaust which places more agency and initiative in the hands of low and mid rank Nazi functionaries, who often inadvertently shaped larger policy matters through the collective weight of their actions rather than simply implementing orders they received from on high.

    Neither

The Wannsee Conference was a meeting of senior officials of Nazi Germany, held in the Berlin suburb of Wannsee on 20 January 1942.

The purpose of the conference, called by director of the SS Reich Main Security Office; RSHA SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich, was to ensure the cooperation of administrative leaders of various government departments in the implementation of the final solution to the Jewish question, whereby most of the Jews of German-occupied Europe would be deported to Poland and murdered.

Reinhard Heydrich, put Himmler in charge of the camps all with Hitlers Verbal approval

"Who originally came up with the idea of Holocaust ? Hitler or Himmler?"

    Neither.

First plan was to make things so unbearable for them, persecute them so badly (Kristalnacht, The Reich Citizenship Act of 1935 stripping Jews of rights, etc) they'd simply leave - go to better places who would tolerate them. Problem was the western world didn't want them either.

Second plan was to ship them all to an island off Africa, much like Britain used Australia as a penal colony, The Madagascar Plan. Problem this round was Rommel couldn't hold Africa and it fell to the Allies.

That is why The Final Solution ('deportation and resettlement aka extermination) is literally called the final solution.

    http://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=1...

The Wannsee Conference was chaired by SS-Obergruppenführer Reinhard Heydrich who wrote the draft; it was then passed up the chair to Himmler who approved, who then passed it further up... The Final Solution [the 'Holocaust'] being signed into law by Hermann Göring as Hitler's second in his role of Reichsmarschall.

    [Hitler never signed it]

Hitler's idea was "the final solution" and it was to be the elimination of not only the Jews, but Gypsy's, the disabled, sick and "mentally impaired", which meant anyone with psychological problem or other medical problem that impaired brain function.

Himmler was just the one who was given the task to complete Hitlers idea.

The Armenian holocaust started by the Turks in 1915 gave Hitler the inspiration for his piece of work. Forced sterilizations and "Euthanasia" killings of the ill were already being used in Germany.
