Common sense would dictate that these dogs should have been banned long ago.
But "PIT nutters lack common sense.
Most people who own pitbulls are one of the following: seeking attention, uneducated, criminals, gang bangers, thugs, wanna bee's, scared, low income, white trash, ignorant, selfish, or a combination of all.
Pitbulls were bred to fight.
Pitbulls were selectively bred for hundreds of years to create a dog that would love battle, would have a very high prey drive, a dog that will attack, grab hold, and not let go. They were bred to ignore pain, and fight to the death.
The most prized fighting Pits were the "man killers' because they were the most ferocious of the fighting pits.
Is it really surprising that this breed of dog is killing all of these people?
The dogs are only doing what they were bred to do. It is not even their fault.
What kind of moron would think that a dog that was bred to fight, & to kill, would make a good pet?
Pitbulls have killed over 50 people since 2013,many of them children.
Pit nutters care more about their breed of choice than they do about children,
Pitbulls should be banned and it should be illegal to breed them.
We need to protect children, pets, and people from pitbulls.
It is obvious that there is a segment of the population that is to stupid to protect itself.

That's like saying "Man killed by vicious Quarter Horse" or "Woman gored to death by Jersey Bull." Animals are animals. Yes, there are certain dog breeds that are known to be more aggressive (such as the Caucasian Mountain Dog/Ovcharka). But you can't condemn a breed out-of-hand. First of all, defining a "pit bull" is often not an exact science, and some dogs are misidentified in the media. Second, research the statistics on which dogs are most likely to bite. Actually our vet says that Cocker Spaniels and Chihuahuas are the worst at his office. The difference is that their bites are not as strong, and these breeds are not sometimes used as "fighting dogs". The pit-type breeds, on the other hand, really suffer from several negatives: they are already stigmatized & stereotyped as "bad" dogs; they WERE traditionally bred to fight and therefore to be dog-aggressive; they need a serious & responsible trainer/owner; they're over-bred by people who probably don't know what they're doing; AND there ARE people still breeding these dogs for pit-fighting rather than trying to cull this characteristic. In the hands of a good trainer and in the right place, I'm sure a pit-type dog could be a great dog. I've heard of great pit-types. But often these dogs AREN'T in the right place, or treated right, and they end up in the news. After all, it's a lot more sensational to report that someone was mauled by a pit bull than to say that someone was nipped several times on the ankle by a completely out-of-control Chihuahua.

The media like to exaggerate and to them an APBT (that's if it even was an APBT) attack is a goldmine, they never state the facts to them all that happened was a beloved family pet out of the blue snapped and mauled the man, they don't however state if that dog was badly bred or not, and may I ask how old the dog was?, American Pitbull Terriers are not fully mature until they are around 4 years old meaning any genetic behavioural issues do not make an appearance until then giving the impression that the beloved family pet that would never hurt a fly suddenly kills a family member, a guy on Y/A's about two months ago claimed that his pitty was the best dog in the world because he "raised it right" this dog is currently 2 or 3 years old, he lets children take toys straight out of its f ucking mouth and guess who bred this dog?, A F UCKING DOG FIGHTER he literally posted in his answer that he bought his dog from a guy who uses the dam AND sire of his dog for fighting and he STILL thinks that his dog isn't going to harm a fly, THIS is the kind of people owning APBT's and THIS is the reason people are being killed, I feel sorry for the poor guy and it must be horrible for his family but just the mere fact the word "pitbull" was used I highly doubt it was a well bred American Pitbull Terrier

I'm sure there were signed, unless the dog suffered some sort of massive stroked that changed its personality, there would have been warnings and the action of one animal does not discredit an entire breed of dog. I work in a shelter. I work with pit bulls and mixes all the time. It isn't the animal, it is the owner. The owner was doing something, possibly even unconsciously, that set the scene for this tragedy. Newspapers rarely tell the whole story, they do sensationalist headlines because that is what sells.

Pit bulls are not an easy breed to own. They're just not, it's fact. Unfortunately they are bred with poor bloodlines and are popular in city type areas. Many people acquire them to seem "tough" or to guard the house, and don't consider their needs. They need strong ownership and discipline (that does NOT mean physically hurting). They need training, stimulation, toys, walks. They are an active breed and with so much pent up energy and possibly a not so nice owner, they can snap like any other breed. It just so happens they are more popular pets than other breeds. It's similar to the killer whale that killed it's trainer. It's locked up in a bathtub and one day it snapped on its trainer. And no killer whale has killed anyone in the wild. They are frustrated when their needs are not met time and time again, and their jaws just so happen to inflict a worse wound that a shih tzu

We've owned pit bulls, dobermans and a rottie cross (who was the most aggressive of all) Pit bulls were originally the protector of the children. It is only through mishandling that they have become headlines in the news. Our pitties and the other I know are the sweetest dogs ever, but perhaps that comes from knowing how to train and handle dogs. If you don't know what you're doing, don't get one.

The news article I read said that the family had been after him to get rid of the dog because of its AGGRESSION. So it wasn't something new that this dog did. It was just a matter of time.
The Pit Bull is the number one dog for human fatalities. They can be loyal pets for years & 'snap' & the dog goes wild.
http://enhs.umn.edu/current/6120/bites/dogbitefata...
The Pit is number 1 & the Rott is number 2.
I do not like either breed but have worked with them & every one was very poor at their jobs or didn't do them at all. Guard dogs, PPD's, Junk yard dogs,......every single one of them could be deterred by the presents of another dog. It is just in their genetics. & BYBers are making everything so much worse.

This is a horrible thing, but I am thankful that the dog didn't do this to a child or someone else who had to pay the price of another human having an aggressive dog. I have no answers. :-((( Just very sad.

The dog probably gave warnings for years that were ignored by the owner or completely misunderstood. It is a terrible tragedy that the man was killed by his dog on December 25 but I recall hearing these same kinds of stories about savage German shepherds and later, Dobermans. It is more a sign of a very bad owner than a very bad dog. Too many people get APBTs as their first dogs when these are not a good choice for first time owners. Also, there is a lot of misinformation going around about how an APBT should be raised. I was told that they "have to" be hit and beaten for no reason as part of raising them. That kind of treatment would cause even a Toy Poodle to bite and attack the owner. I have no idea what the circumstances were in the attack you mentioned but I don't think it is fair to smear a whole breed because of isolated incidents. I grew up with German shepherds and my parents were always being asked why they weren't afraid the dogs would turn on them and kill us all. Our dogs never bit anyone. I have had the pleasure of owning some very wonderful Dobermans who also never bit anyone, in spite of everyone warning me that they would kill us all.

This question is old, but the subject still stands. To the guy who won BA, maybe they were bred to fight, but they really arent no more. And guess what? Humans arent bred to fight or kill innocent human beings but yet they do. We werent bred to steal, but yet we do. Its all in the up bringing. If you miss treat a dog, any kid, whether a poodle or pitbull or lab, it will defend itself, its simply the way of life, even small insects like bees or wasps defend themselves and kill, so if you go off by killing, everything and everyone should be put to rest. ******* ding a lings
