Tailgating - What To Do About it?

While driving today this truck was tailgating me. I came to a roundabout and a car was entering the roundabout. So I stopped to give way and the car nearly rear ended me. He was obviously very shaken because when I took off he remained for quite a while. Trouble is I simply don't know what to do about it. Maybe simply pull over and let them pass.

If someone tailgates me, if it's only one lane and he can't pass, I'll pull over for him as soon as I can. This is because I'm often stuck behind slow people and I hate it.

But if there are other lanes, if he could pull around me, I'll just take my foot off the gas. As the car goes slower and slower, he'll get the message that he could go faster if he just passed me.

Engine brake...downshift, and your car slows down without brake lights, scares the heck out of tailgaters

It would be safest to let them past if you can, if not, ignore them until you can get out of their way.

A lot of people I know would recommend a brake check but to me, identifying a dangerous situation and purposefully doing something that will make it worse is probably the stupidest reaction a person can have.

Slightly push the break pedal: your break lights go on, but you do not really break...

Then full trottle! You car bounce forward, while the tailgater breaks hard! :-)
