2000 f250 rear main seal?

How hard is it to change a rear main seal in a 2000 f250 with a 5.4.

    Remove trans and support engine. Remove flywheel. Remove oil seal. Drive in new seal. Reinstall flywheel and trans.

    more than half the time oil starts coming out of the rear main seal, the problem got started by a loss of crankcase ventilation - either the PCV valve got stuck or the vacuum line drawing the suction on it got broken or clogged. When the crankcase builds up internal positive pressure it blows the oil against the front and rear seals. Since the rear seal has greater clearances, this is the one to give out first more often than not. PCV line is worth a look while you are getting this fixed.

    transmission has to come out. most transmission shops can replace the seal for you since this won't be a afternoon job if you don't know what you're doing

    The engine doesn't have to come out but the trans does.

    Engine has to come out of vehicle !!! LOTS of work !
