Or is it the other way around or something other.
If the book was written by the movie, then I would rather just watch the movie.
If the book was written first and then the movie was made by the book, then I'd rather read the book.

Most movies will be adapted from books. It is rare to have it the other way around.

The book was written first, and is a lot better than the movie, as books almost always are.
