Has anyone ever been nominated for the same award, for two different characters they played?

It can't happen for acting, an actor cannot be nominated for the same category twice in one year. I believe they can get a lead and Supporting nomination but I'm not sure. It's happened for other categories though, I know that for score it's happened a couple times. It happened this year in fact, Alexandre Desplat is nominated for his scores in The Imitation Game and The Grand Budapest Hotel. A few years ago John Williams was nominated for Tin Tin and Warhorse I believe. For directing it's happened twice, Michael Curtiz back in like the 30s I think and then Steven Soderbergh for Traffic and Eric Brokovich in 2000. So it's possible just not in the acting categories.

In the movie.....S1m0ne .....with Al Pacino....... a down on his luck producer receives a device from a dying man, that allows him to digitally create any actress or actor he wants......with all the traits of the great Actors.

So, he creates Simone.....which stands for ....Simulation One. And puts her in his film, after his leading lady quits....over some petty trailer size issue.

The film becomes a hit, and Hollywood goes NUTS over this new "It" girl......so he makes a bunch of more movies, all starring his fake creation.......Sim One.

And yes, at the Oscars.......she's nominated for best actress in TWO of her films...competing against herself basically.....and of course wins........because everyone is dying to meet this girl in real life.

It was actually a pretty scathing commentary on how shallow Hollywood is........as people at parties brag about being her best friend.....and real Actors, (who shot their scenes seperately, of course,) tell all these stories about how great it was working with her, and some even hint at romantic relationships, to build their own status........ (even though she doesn't actually exist. )

It was actually a pretty good movie....but needless to say.......Hollywood critics, were not amused....because it made fun of everyone.......from the fake people, to the critics, that raved over a total piece of garbage and called it "art"......to social climbers and status seekers.....and I am sure the Academy was not amused at being lampooned like that.
