Is there a legitimate reason to hook a trailer mounted air compressor like you would run a jack hammer with to a Fire Sprinkler System?
A Plumber hooked a high flow compressor to my sprinklers to try to charge them to run dry. A head blew off and rusty water sprayed all over a high dollar NC Machine. Now he has disappeared! It it a common practice to do this? He says the swing gate is bad and he is trying to seat it. He is working for my buildings owner so I didn't hire him.

You may have a "dry pipe" system. One of the facilities I maintain has a fair portion of its sprinkler piping running through the unheated attic. Where the piping runs the risk of encountering freezing temperatures, you obviously don't want them sitting full of water all the time. But the piping also has to be kept full of compressed air or else the water valve opens up. The air compressor is a necessary component.
