When you have indents in carpet, it is not just the fibers that are matted down. It is also the backing being deformed and the padding is compressed. Shampooing with an extractor can help by relaxing the backing and the fibers but for heavy damage, a little clean boiling hot water before shampooing can work wonders. Do not let the water sit for too long before extracting as it can damage the sub floor. Several short treatments are better than a longer soaking.

Two ways and it will depend on the type of carpet you have..

Heat set fibers need to be relaxed and reset with heat.. I suggest a hot steam iron. You can CAREFULLY iron over a wet towel and inject steam into the fibers and work the fibers with a comb/ hair pick.

DO NOT leave iron on to long so you so you don t melt the carpet fiber since most ( not all) carpets now are nylon.

Another way , if you have an older carpet, is the ice cube trick. Place and leave an ice cube on the spot(s) .. Work fibers with a comb/pick.

I suggest the ice method first and then the steam method..GL
