I believe it is to drive people to other categories and/or to actually to further the steady decline of members. Every "improvement" or "glitch" Yahoo has had in the last year has lead to numerous members leaving. I don't believe Yahoo is making enough from their ads in Y/A.
Especially counterproductive - the new format
the inability to scroll back past 20 questions
the anonymous posting which only encourages trolls, racists, and antisemites
