Turn off the electricity at the mains, lift toaster from the water and empty out, put toaster in rubbish bin go to shop and buy a new toaster.

I prefer the answers that tell you to turn off the breaker that the
plug in is on. That way you know for sure that you won't get
electrocuted. Then just let the toaster sit out in the air for at
least 48hours to let it dry out completely. If you have just a
regular fan you could have the fan blowing on it.

Shut off the breaker for the outlet where the toaster is plugged in, unplug the toaster, remove it from the water, plan on replacing the toaster since there might be damage to the heating elements. Many are much cheaper than they used to be.

Until you push down the lever, the power comes to a stop where the cord enters. Pushing down the lever will engage the heating elements and then everything could be live.
If there is no sparking and fizzing, perhaps the water hasn't gotten in at that stuff. In any case the cord itself is still insulated and completely dry where it's plugged in at the wall, right? So unplug it immediately.
Set the toaster aside for a few days. If you want you could consider drying it in the oven (NOT the microwave) on very low, no hotter than 150 degrees or so.
Check to see whether the breaker tripped or the GFI switch on the outlet tripped. It should have. If it didn't then nothing electrical inside the toaster actually got wet, which is a bit of a miracle but not impossible.

Depends upon what the toaster is plugged with. Did you mean "plugged in" to the mains? Simply disconnect the plug and pull the toaster out and chuck it in the bin.

Your best bet is to turn off the power to the house at the main breaker. Only then remove the offending toaster. You can't make toast underwater. (But you could be swimming with the fishes). Don't depend of the switch-- the socket could be wired wrong, with the switch in the neutral wire. It would still work.

just jump up in the air and before you touch the ground pull the plug out of the wall. saves all the hassles of frogging around with the breaker system. I practice on electric fences and getting pretty darn good at it,keeps my timing up to snuff !

Unplug the unit, remove from the water, open the crumb pan and let i dry for a couple of days. Reset the GFI device on the counter to get the power back on.
