Does anyone know when and why WWE changed?

I grew up in the Attitude Era and there were basically no rules for what they could or couldn't do. I know they had restrictions but they got away with so much. I stopped watching around 2006/2007 and just started watching again. Everything is so different. When and why did it started getting so "PG"?

Around 2010 was the official change to PG. They did it because Linda was going into politics, so they didn't want to be edgy. They are supposed to be picking up the edginess soon, as some rumors are saying.

If you have the WWE Network you should check out the Monday Night Wars, it explains why WWE went from a tacky gimmicky family friendly show to the attitude no rules side of it, which was basically the competition from WCW, WCW was more "real" and had the attitude side of it, so WWE changed it's style.

My theory is that WWE changed again because there is no real competition anymore.

I also stopped watching around 06/07 though I watch stuff on my mates WWE Network account every now and then.

'If I'm going to generalize here, I'll just flat out say Attitude Era fans. Most of them were 6 or younger when they watched it, and seem to think that that's all wrestling was up until 2002. If you want to classify that as "WWE fans", then I suppose it's WWE fans, but even Attitude Era fans seem to revoke current WWE, so I don't think that's really befitting. First they went public and they have to answer to stockholders and advertisers. Second Linda ran for Senate twice so wwe wanted to keep a clean image.

How is it different? You still get the same authority all over the tv. You still get the same backstage segments that take over half the broadcast. you still get brawling outside of the ring.
