Can my employers hack into personal iPhone and email?

When I started my recent job the HR boss stated that if they suspect me of a crime, they have a right to monitor my personal cell phone and email and were given special permission by a judge. It all seems very sketchy and thing is I can't do anything about it because its a family run company. But I suspect that the person who interviewed me went ahead and monitored my cell phone and emails as I overheard them talking about certain emails I sent that they wouldn't have known about.

So what can I do? What can they be charged with? Also are there any apps that can prevent hackers from eavesdropping?

Fyi my HR boss is just a douche with little man syndrome who doesn't like it when family members of the owners work in the company and is trying to find dirt on me to get me out of the company.

The rule is if they give you the phone to use, then its their phone and they can monitor or confiscate it at anytime regardless how you use it. If its your own phone you bought, and you run anything work related on it (like running email software on your phone or ipad to use their network), then they have the right to confiscate it. I personally do not use my iphone to access the work email because of this, I dont do anything bad but I dont want them having the right to confiscate a personal item of mine. Keep work and personal separate.

By the way where I work they randomly read through your work emails. They also run a scan to check for specific words in everyone's email. You are kidding yourself if you think this doesn't happen. People there have been fired for sending jokes that had bad things in them even though they were really good employees. Dont ever email anything "out" of work like to a personal email, because that is monitored heavily and rightfully so as companies protect everything done internally.

"given special permission by a judge" That, right there, is the important part. If a judge gives permission (won't say that it'll happen), then they have the legal right. Otherwise, no. However, you need to ensure that you do not use your phone or email from work. Especially e-mail, if you go through the company's computers. Because THAT, they do have a right to.

"Fyi my HR boss is just a douche with little man syndrome" Don't work there. Things will never work out for you if this is the situation.

Are you using their service to get online with your device? Then they can monitor you. Simple as that. They have every right to monitor what their employees are doing while you're working ON THEIR TIME.

It's not hacking either. All it takes is a good it guy/gal who knows their stuff. I don't consider myself an expert at this stuff but I know who is doing what on my network and when.

If you don't like it - quit.

Employers do not HACK any thing - LOL ... whatever is used for or at work can be LEGALLY checked into . especially if the company is paying for them ! Best thing you can do is not do any thing illegally , wrong or any thing you do not want them to see , keep your personal stuff AT HOME !

I worked for a company where they hired private investigators to follow employees around after work. The owners of the company are Mormons and they spy on everyone.
