    Actually, Obama's "Well Christians have done bad things too" is intended to help pull together his ridiculously huge anti-ISIS coalition by assuring the Islamic members that they are not fighting on behalf of the Christian West against their own side, but instead are working together against a common enemy. It's not fundamentally different from Bush announcing that "Islam is the religion of peace". The truth or falsity of the statements is irrelevant as is often the case with what politicians say. The point in both cases is to try to weaken the enemy's position by undermining the support the opposition can gather, and hopefully gather more support for your side.
