can i protect my self against a mentally ill person?
my mother has a neigbour who is mentally ill and he stands outside her apartment door for hours and doesnt knock or say anything today when i went there to bring in her groceries he was standing there and he went inside his apartment and acquired a knife and chased me out of the building am i allowed to grab the baseball bat out of my trunk and protect my self if he trys to attack me again?
maybe i should have made it clear can i go to my car and if hes still advancing can i pull out the baseball bat and if hes still coming can i bash him with it

Yes, you can defend yourself against ANY attack. But keep in mind that there is a fine line between defending yourself and turning into an attacker yourself. Don't get close to that line unless you really have to.

But why haven't you called the police? They arrest people who chase others with knives. Mentally ill or not. :D

No, you are not. You are allowed to call the cops. Seems to me there are two mentally ill people here.

if ANYONE is trying to attack you, you have the right to defend yourself. no matter their condition
