Can kids intuitively tell who their birth mom is if theyre adopted?

I know my son loves me but do you think he knows on some level I'm his real mom? My sister and her husband think he thinks of me as his babysitter and big sister. I like to think he considers me his parent as well. I hope he doesnt forget about me because I dont get to see him much anymore.

My children are mine through OPEN adoption. They know their birth families. Because it's open, I feel secure. They love all of their parents, but I can SEE the differences in the relationships. I'm Mommy.

depends on the age when the child left.. if you truly pair bonded then on some level he may "feel" something about you. children usually dont develop actual memories till about 5. even up to then kids develop mental connections how they connect ALL the pieces is hard to determine. personally I think your sis and bro in law are jack asses.. you will always be his mother but it is up to you to become his MOM. just because he fell out of you doesnt mean you are given a pass it takes YEARS of comfort, anger, cuddles, laughs, and discipline to become a mom nearly any woman can be a mother but it takes a mom to understand..

    "intuitively", no.

obviously if they've been told someone is their birth mom than they will think of them as their birth mom.
