Why do I keep getting extensions on chrome?

I'm using Google Chrome. A new window opens wherever I click on a page. I have to go to settings > extensions & remove them. The same extensions keep coming back that I have been deleting & have to keep deleting them.

I ran Malwarebytes & occasionally it has a few malware. I delete them then of course I have to restart. That's when they seem to come back.

I've read to run Malwarebytes in safe mode but in windows 8.1 it seems impossible to get to safe mode

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Update:

I just noticed I accidentally closed Chrome, opened it & BAM those damn extensions are back. I had to delete them AGAIN. It's making me CrAzY.

Make sure you remove the extensions from internet exploder and firefox if you have it too. Run both adware removers mentioned. Delete all toolbars that show up in Programs and Features. Delete all other program groups in the start menu that have to do with toolbars or consumerism. Last resort, call an independent computer guy to fix it for you.

Reinstall Chrome. That's the best thing you can do. Otherwise, you might need to run a VIRUS scan instead of a spyware/adware/malware scan. This might as well be a very feeble but annoying virus.

Try running adwcleaner. I've found it more thorough than malwarebytes.
