How to train an agressive dog?

We just adopted a young (3 yrs) terrier mix. She is great, except that she wants to attack every dog she sees. I joke with people that her favorite snack is other dog's faces. She does this unprovoked, no matter how mellow the other dog is. Any suggestions to get her to stop?

When adopting (from a shelter or rescue I'm assuming) it is always a toss up the kind of temperament your going to get, but some things you can do to try to contain, is your going to need to keep a small muzzle on her, it is dangerous to other dogs if she is aggressive. Unfortunately there isn't a lot of options with aggressive nature. I would see if they're is a suitable behavioral trainer in your area and contact them.

Also ---Scarred Decoy--- maybe doesn't have a lot of experience with terriers but they are rarely classified as aggressive. Stubborn, bold and energetic yes, aggressive no.

I am sorry your in this situation, your vet might also have some advice on how to handle it.

    Hope something works out.

You keep the dog away from other dogs. Terriers are bred to be dog agressive and animal agressive. There's nothing you can do other then keep the dog away from other dogs. When it attacks or kills another dog becosue you failed to keep the dog under control or away from other dogs then it will be your fault

You BOUGHT a TERRIER from the pound and you did it without first understanding that terriers are genetically animal aggressive. You cannot "fix" that, but, with the right help, you can control it.

Find a BALANCED trainer who with the use of a prong and perhaps an Electric collar will bring some control over this dog before it does nail another animal.

From your behavior description, I'm going to assume it's a pitbull mix.

anyway, your dog doesn't have to like other dogs or be around them, however, he should be taught that he can not be obnoxious on leash, he can learn to ignore them.

Getting a professional is a good idea. Do lots of research, as any bozo can hang a shingle calling themselves a dog trainer. Make sure YOU are the one handling the dog.

She come from a BYBer & her temperament is not guaranteed. This behavior is very typical of dogs from BYBers because they do not do any genetic testing. Reputable breeders guarantee the health & temperament of their dogs.

You got scammed by a stupid, ignorant BYBer. BYBers guarantee NOTHING.
