How can I upgrade this PC?

Hello guys. I'm here to help a friend of mine on upgrading his PC. Here are the current specs..

Mobo: Z68XP-UD3

Processor: Intel i7 2600

Graphics Card: GTX 550 Ti

RAM: 4GB Kingmax Semiconductor

What can he do to make it good enough to play modern games?

Also, he wanted to upgrade his GPU but not sure which one would fit.

    Upgrade RAM to 8GB or more. For the GPU, any PCI-e 2nd gen or 3rd gen will fit, I suggest the GTX 960
